“I began my internship at Saville, Dodgen & Co. on February 14, 2011. It being Valentine’s Day, I was in no doubt that this was a match made in heaven. Of course, I was really nervous because I didn’t know the first thing about taxes. I had never even looked at my own returns.
We spent the first day and a half in training. We learned how to create our workpapers, how to assign projects to ourselves, and the basic procedure in preparing an individual return. They partnered us up with a mentor and gave us a few easy returns to try our hands at.
Most of the learning took place at my desk, one on one with a very knowledgeable person to answer all of my questions, and in weeks I had learned how to prepare individual returns, trusts, estates, corporations, and partnership returns.
It was challenging to go from knowing nothing to being able to comfortably prepare such a variety of work, but I was very supported along the way. At Saville you are always surrounded by multiple people who have a variety of experience, and everyone is always willing to help. Even during busy season!”
